This guide outlines each key phase of running a Magic event in Wizards EventLink, using official Wizards of the Coast procedures. Each section provides clear, accessible steps for organizers.
1. Registration
EventLink supports several registration methods:
- Companion App (Event Code or QR Code): Share the event code or display a QR code. Players join via the Companion app and appear in EventLink for confirmation.
- Wizards Account Email: Enter a player’s registered Wizards email to add them directly.
- Guest Entry: Use "Add Guest" to register players without an account (they won’t count toward engaged player metrics).
- CSV Import: Upload a spreadsheet of emails or display names to bulk-register players.
- 2HG Events: Players join individually, and you pair them into teams manually using the drag-and-drop team assignment.
Once all players are registered, click Start Event to lock the list and begin.
2. Starting the Event
After registration:
- Click Open Event from your calendar.
- Click Start Event when ready. This locks the player list.
- Draft events will transition into the Draft Phase; others move directly to pairings.
3. Draft Phase (for Booster Drafts)
- Assign Draft Pods: Auto-assign or manually adjust pod groups.
- Start Draft Timer: Use the built-in timer to manage pack rotations.
- Deckbuilding: After drafting, start the deckbuilding timer.
- In-Pod vs. Cross-Pod Pairings: Choose whether players are paired within pods or across them.
- Create Round 1 to begin matches.
4. Deckbuilding Phase (for Sealed and Draft)
- Start the Deckbuilding Timer for players to build their decks.
- Adjust the timer as needed.
- Click Create Round 1 once ready to start play.

- Players see pairings via Companion or EventLink Mirror.
- Results: Players report results via Companion or TO can enter them manually.
- Use Add Penalty for infractions.
- Click Create Next Round when all matches are reported.

- Continue recording results as usual.
7. Ending the Event

- EventLink submits the event automatically to Wizards.
- Ending the event promptly ensures proper reporting and store credit.
